How does Botox work?

When Botox® is injected into the muscle, it works to temporarily weaken it so that it can no longer cause the skin to crease or fold. When the muscles are hindered from working, the skin is able to relax.

Botox® usually lasts for around four months, and after this time the muscles will begin gaining strength and skin will start to crease once more.

What areas does Botox treat?

BOTOX® injectables are mainly used on the face.

Forehead wrinkles, crow’s feet lines around the eyes, and the “11 lines” between the eyebrows are the most commonly treated areas.

  • Forehead “worry lines” – formed when we raise our eyebrows

  • Glabellar “frown lines” – the area between the eyebrows

  • Crow’s Feet – the areas around the outside of the eyes. Wrinkles form here when we squint or smile.

  • Bunny Lines – Wrinkles over the bridge of nose

  • Nefertiti neck lift-tightens jawline and eliminates ‘turkey neck’

  • Dimpled chin

  • Smile lines

Wrinkles and fine lines can be identified in two ways: dynamic or static.

Dynamic lines are those which are evident when expressing emotion.

Static lines are those which remain evident even when the face is relaxed.

  • What happens during a laser hair removal session?
Each treatment may take up to 45mins to an hour, depending on the size of the area being treated. Smaller areas like underarms or hollywood can be treated in 20-30mins. First, your therapist will determine what kind of laser is best for your skin and hair, as well as your goals. Tell them about any medications you’re taking, as well as any medical conditions. The laser equipment will be adjusted to your skin colour and hair thickness. You’ll need to put on special eye protection glasses, so the laser light doesn’t damage your eyes. Your therapist will apply a cooling gel on each area at one time to protect your skin and help the laser to penetrate. During the treatment, the laser emits a concentrated beam of light to damage the hair follicle and prevent regrowth. While your provider methodically treats one small area at a time, you may feel mild discomfort, like a warm pinprick or snap, as the laser passes over your skin.
  • What is the difference between IPL and Laser?
The key difference between the two treatments is that Laser hair removal emits a single focused and precise wavelength, which is optimized for maximum follicle absorption. IPL uses multi spectrum lights, which is scattered and much weaker.
  • Will Laser Hair Removal permanently remove my hair?
Yes, our laser machines can remove hair permanently. The hairs treated with our laser will not grow back. However, any future hormonal changes may result in future growth of new hairs and more sessions would be required. There are three stages of hair growth and at any one time only 30% of the hairs are visible on the skin surface the rest are in a dormant state, this is why you will need multiple sessions.
  • How does laser hair removal work?
During laser hair removal, a laser emits a light that is absorbed by the pigment (melanin) in the hair. The light energy is converted to heat, which damages the tube-shaped sacs within the skin (hair follicles) that produce hairs. This damage inhibits or delays future hair growth. While your hair won’t always fall out immediately, it will eventually get there. Some hairs are ejected as soon as they’re lasered, while others can continue to grow and fall out over time.
  • What do I need to do to achieve the best results?
In order to achieve the best possible results, there are two key things you need to do. 1) Be consistent. Especially for your initial 6 – 8 sessions, must be within 4 weeks apart to achieve optimum results. 2) Good communication with your therapist. It is essential that you communicate with your therapist exactly how you are feeling and how the temperature feels on your skin. Your sensitivity can change each session, this can be due to a hormonal change or reduced thickness in hair growth. Communicating this to your therapist will allow us to use the correct settings suitable for your skin.
  • Does Laser Hair Removal hurt?
The best description of the procedure is that you will feel the same sensation as a rubber band “snapping” against your skin. The unique laser wavelengths of our machine are able to effectively damage the hair follicle, whilst preventing injury and pain to the surrounding tissue. At the same time, integrated ICE technology continuously cools the skin surface while preventing superficial burns and the sensation of pain, as well as the cooling system provides you maximum comfort. Much less painful than having your hairs ripped out by the roots with waxing.
  • Are there any Laser Hair Removal Side Effects?
Our lasers meet the highest of safety standards and our staff are highly experienced in providing the best treatment, for the best results. You will not experience any long-term side effects, as the laser beam is very superficial in the skin – This will all be explained during your consultation.
  • How many sessions will I need?
“Results vary depending on the individual” Something you’re probably used to hearing. As vague as it sounds, it’s completely true and the results of Laser Hair Removal really do differ depending on you as an individual. This is due to each individual’s hormones and specific hair cycle. Typically, we recommend a minimum of 6 to 8 laser for both men & women. Your initial 6 sessions must be consistent (every 4 weeks) in order to catch each hair cycle and achieve optimum results. Once the treated area has been assessed by your therapist and she is happy that you’ve achieved optimum results, she will move you onto maintenance top-ups. Maintenance requires you to have an additional treatment every 2-6 months depending on your hair cycle. This is to prolong the effects of Laser Hair Removal and to ensure smooth, silky skin.
  • How often should I come in for treatments?
Hair grows in cycles, typically every 3-4 weeks depending on the part of the body, however, this will vary with each individual.
